Who build for long, will finally move in
After a long period of construction the Balance of the MicroverseExternal link community celebrated the opening of lab and interim office building on Rosalind Franklin Street. Cluster speaker Prof. Kirsten Küsel offered welcoming words to all guests and recalled the idea and construction of the laboratory in a short summary. In the background there was a picture show that gave an insight into the phases of the construction of the buildings.
Microverse Professor Bas Dutilh (Viral Ecology and Omics) and Junior Group Leader Amelia Barber (Fungal Informatics) thanked all involved for the opportunity to use the laboratory for their research and new research approaches. Laboratory manager Torsten Schubert gave interested people a tour of the laboratories and explained the various technical possibilities for research that have been set up.
A highlight of the event was the unveiling of new artwork by Erfurt artist Lilian Hünniger, who worked with the scientists to representatively portray the vast diversity of organisms that will be studied in the building - bacteria, fungi, and viruses, with a prominently featured depiction of DNA to highlight the highly genetic focus of the research that occurs in the labs of Barber and Dutilh. More information about the artist can be found hereExternal link.
The inauguration of the interim buildings is one of the first steps in the long road to the Microverse research complex, of which completion is expected in 2024, with research groups moving in during the year of 2025.
